Ikat pillows are trendy for their unique patterns and vibrant colours. We make them through a traditional dyeing process. The Ikat technique varies across different cultures and regions. Each has its unique style and method. The process is labour-intensive and requires a high level of skill, especially in the binding and dyeing stages, to ensure the patterns are precise and vivid. Here’s how we make gift sweet home pillow purple for your cosy space Design and Planning: First we plan the design. Ikat patterns are complex and geometric precision, so careful planning is important. Yarn Preparation: We use cotton silk yarns to make the fabric. We prepare and wound the yard on frames to make them ready for dyeing. Binding: Then tightly bound the yarns in a specific pattern. The binding process is crucial as it determines the pattern that will appear on the final fabric. The bounded yarns will resist the dye and remain uncoloured. Dyeing: In this step, we dye the bound yarns. Traditionally, we use natural dyes. The dye penetrates the unbound areas of the yarn. This process can be repeated multiple times with different binding patterns and dyes to create multicoloured designs. Weaving: After dyeing, the master lines up the yarns on a loom. The unique aspect of Ikat weaving is that the pattern is formed by the dyed yarns as they are woven together. Fabric Creation: The weaving process results in Ikat fabric, which is then washed and finished. This fabric showcases the distinctive blurred patterns that Ikat is known for, created by slight shifts in the yarns during weaving. Pillow Making: Finally, we cut Ikat fabric and sew it into pillows. This often involves adding a backing material, and sometimes additional decorative elements.
