Velvet of this type is created by weaving two layers of cloth at once and cutting them apart to produce the pile. This technique gives the material its depth and the slight shadow movement visible when the surface is brushed in different directions. Because the work is entirely manual—warp tying, dye preparation, loom tensioning—each meter carries small differences in alignment and colour registration.
