Snoopy Poster Art, vintage style military aviation travel poster art by – Squadron Posters! World War I, or the First World War (28 July 1914 – 11 November 1918), also known as the Great War, was a global conflict between two coalitions: the Allies (or Entente) and the Central Powers. Main areas of conflict included Europe and the Middle East, as well as parts of Africa and the Asia-Pacific. The war saw important developments in weaponry including tanks, aircraft, artillery, machine guns, and chemical weapons. One of the deadliest conflicts in history, it resulted in an estimated 30 million military casualties, and 8 million civilian deaths from war-related causes and genocide. The movement of large numbers of people was a major factor in the deadly Spanish flu pandemic. Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace presented Charles M. Schulz’s lovable beagle, Snoopy, as his alter ego, the Flying Ace. Snoopy’s most exciting adventures in his transformed doghouse – now a Sopwith Camel airplane – from the time he faced a deadly bout of influenza to sparring with the Flying Ace’s archenemy, the Red Baron. The art series expanded beyond a pop culture icon. The depiction includes an officer’s ulanka (tunic) like the one worn by the real Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen. Charles Monroe “Sparky” Schulz (November 26, 1922 – February 12, 2000) was an American cartoonist who created the long-running comic strip Peanuts, which features the characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army and had always wanted to draw adventure comic strips but had been told to stick with what he did best – funny kids. However, after 15 years as a cartoonist, on Sunday, October 10, 1965, he finally had the opportunity to create his hero: Snoopy, the World War I Flying Ace. Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace was organized by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center and toured by ExhibitsUSA, the national touring division of Mid-America Arts Alliance, a non-profit regional arts organization based in Kansas City, Missouri.
