Description Mudd(Ù
د) Vessel/cup – Mudd is a volume measuring unit that has been widely used as a reference measure in the Islam for Zakaat al-Fitr, fidyah and kaffarah. The Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) ordered that a fasting person give out Zakaat al-Fitr at the end of Ramadhan â one saaâ of staple food on behalf of yourself. The minimum quantity to pay is one saa’, which is equal to four double handfuls or one Mudd( Ù
د ). What is a Saaâ? A Prophetic saaâ ( صاع ) is not a weight measurement. It was and still is a measurement of volume, similar to the size of a large salad bowl. It is made up of four mudds, and a mudd ( Ù
د ) is a smaller container, close to the size of a small salad bowl.
